The MidAmerica Contingency Planning Association has announced that Jim Baird, Director of Information Security, Information Security Auditor with 10-D Security will be the featured speaker at its next meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
News stories on ransomware attacks have unfortunately become commonplace. Though ransomware has been around for a while, the attacks have evolved, and ransom demands have increased substantially. Not only do the attacks result in locked-up data and systems, but many now include substantial theft of data to exert maximum leverage on the victims. But where do the cyber-criminals post the stolen data? The Dark Web is the likely place where that data (and much more) will be bought and sold.
During the session, Baird will cover:
- Cyber-attacker methods and their targets
- Ransomware trends
- Proactive steps to avoid becoming a ransomware victim, and planning actions “just in case”
- The Dark Web
A demo of the Dark Web to uncover where it exists, what it contains, and why it should be examined with caution, will also be discussed.
Registration for this virtual event is now open here.
