Frank Shultz
Infinite Blue

When did you know you wanted this job?

When I started Infinite Blue as BC in the Cloud just over 9 years ago, it was because I saw a huge gap in the market to streamline BC/DR planning and response, and to automate more than had been done previously. I had the opportunity as CEO to build amazing products to help people and I had the chance to pick the team I wanted to work with, which was even more exciting. Now, my role has evolved as I lead Infinite Blue Crew Members on 3 continents to help some of the most complex organizations in the world to reduce the time between an impact to understanding to response with our solutions.

What advice would you give to your younger self at the start of your career?

I would tell my younger self to listen more to experienced people to learn from their mistakes and successes instead of blazing my own trail. We all think we know everything when we’re young and want to prove ourselves—early on, we trade time for experience and work harder and longer to get where we need to get to.

What impresses you the most when you are considering hiring someone?

Grit and curiosity. The best definition of grit I’ve heard is “where purpose meets perseverance” and I love that. Curiosity is important because it keeps the person asking “why?” and allows us to incrementally improve everything we do over time.

What is the biggest challenge to achieving that success?

A fixed or closed mindset and a lack of celebration as milestones are achieved. If we approach any situation with a fixed mindset, things become difficult and hard to navigate and we shy away from challenges; that is counterintuitive to success. Additionally, we need to celebrate milestones if we are going somewhere far on our journey to success to maintain energy and momentum.
