When did you know you wanted this job?

I participated in a half-marathon run in San Francisco where I engaged with people from all over the world.  Seeing this level of diversity, hearing the languages, and being surrounded by such an international group of people reminded me of why I acquired a master’s degree in international business. This experience motivated me to pursue a global role where I can regularly interact with people from all around the globe. So, I made the leap into a global technology company leading a global business continuity program.

How do you avoid being complacent in your role?

As a life-long learner,  I am passionate about continuous advancement.  Learning fast, focusing on personal and professional development, and staying curious are ways that I avoid being complacent in my role.  I am constantly engaged in reading, taking courses, listening to podcasts, participating in community forums, and attending industry events. We all have so much to learn as we advance resilience within our organizations and across our communities. The more I learn, the more excited I become about applying those learnings.

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is always keep learning, generously listen, and believe in yourself.  Spend time helping others believe and achieve things they didn’t think were possible! Help yourself by gaining a mentor, and regularly seeking feedback to stay engaged in your development. Lastly, never forget that I am where I am today because someone believed in me more than I believed in myself… so pay it forward!

What advice would you give to your younger self at the start of your career?

The advice I would give my younger self is to be intentional about developing and nurturing personal and professional relationships.  I have learned and grown the most from my network of industry colleagues. Investing in building strong professional networks and alliances across the resilience industry have proven to be integral to my success thus far and will remain significant in my long-term success.
