Continuity Cares, as a result of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005, we founded an ongoing initiative called Continuity Cares. It started with debris clean-up and drywalling to working at a Veterans homeless shelter in New Orleans, but the activity has followed us to every city we’ve been since. Other projects include a community garden in Atlanta, a food bank in San Diego, a home for abandoned children in Phoenix, and the Denver Rescue Mission.
On Saturday April 13, 2019, our volunteers in partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Fusion Risk Management and the New Orleans Fire Department, will be building bunk beds for deserving families. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization whose mission is, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”
Luke Mickelson, the founder of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, learned in 2012 that there were local children in his town who slept on the floor. Surprised to discover how widespread this need was in his close-knit community, Mickelson founded this organization that builds and delivers beds to children in need. Today they have grown to 118 chapters in 39 states. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a Top 10 finalist in the 2018 CNN Heroes program
Interested volunteers should contact Robert Nakao at bob@continuityinsights.com or 267-980-6151 to participate in this community project, which will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at a downtown New Orleans fire station.
