Record for Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters Smashed in 2020

The cumulative cost of 22 separate weather and climate disasters during 2020 cost $95 billion according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The price tag represents the fourth-highest total annual cost since 1980.

The list of weather and climate disasters included a record-setting seven tropical cyclone events and 13 severe storm events, along with a drought and a wildfire event.
