A new report from cloud-based email management company Mimecast indicates that email remains the primary attack mode for delivering security threats for ransomware, impersonation, and malicious files or URLs. According to the report, 24% of all delivered email is considered unsafe.
Whether it’s delivered via a cloud-based, on-premises, or a hybrid environment, email is still at risk based on the findings of the 2017 Email Security Risk Assessment. The findings were compiled upon inspection of more than 45 million emails.

The findings of the Mimecast Email Security Risk Assessment and the potential disruptive impact a cyber security incident can have on an organization demonstrates why cyber-attacks and data breaches are such major concerns for business continuity and resilience professionals. The Business Continuity Institute’s latest Horizon Scan Report identified them as the top two threats to organizations with 88% and 81%, respectively, of respondents to a global survey expressing concern about the prospect of such an event occurring.
