
As the 2020 hurricane season set new highs with a record number of tropical Atlantic storms, meteorologist turned to the Greek alphabet after exhausting the “regular” alphabet. However, hurricane experts have decided against the practice for 2021 if the number of tropical events storms past the letter Z.
In addition, The World Meteorological Organization’s Hurricane Committee also decided to start issuing its regular hurricane bulletins for the Atlantic on May 15, two weeks earlier than in previous years, moving the “official” start of hurricane season up from June 1.
