As a result of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005, Continuity Insights founded an ongoing initiative called Continuity Cares. It started with debris clean-up and drywalling to working at a Veterans homeless shelter in New Orleans, but the activity has followed us to every city the Continuity Insights Management Conference has visited since.

Other projects have included a community garden in Atlanta, a food bank in San Diego, a home for abandoned children in Phoenix, the Denver Rescue Mission, and Back-to-School Night, where volunteers filled schools bookbags with much-needed school supplies for students in the Miami-Dade County School system.

Last year in New Orleans our volunteers, in partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Fusion Risk Management, and the New Orleans Fire Department, built bunk beds for deserving families. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization whose mission is, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”

Based on the tremendous response to our efforts in New Orleans, we will once again partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace at the 2020 Continuity Insights Management Conference in San Antonio for our annual volunteer effort in giving back to the community. Our Continuity Cares day is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020 and will take place onsite at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort.

Luke Mickelson, the founder of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, learned in 2012 that there were local children in his town who slept on the floor. Surprised to discover how widespread this need was in his close-knit community, Mickelson founded the organization which builds and delivers beds to children in need. Today, Sleep in Heavenly Peace has grown to 118 chapters in 39 states. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a Top 10 finalist in the 2018 CNN Heroes program
