Bruce McIndoe, President
McIndoe Risk Advisory LLC

How did your earlier career choices lead you to where you are now?

I am coming to this from an non-traditional background. I have a B.S. in Physics and a Masters in Computer Science. I worked on major programs and supported the warfighter for DoD and the intelligence community for 14 years. In 1999, I was one of the founders of iJET International (later WorldAware) that provided the first 24×7 Indications and Warning Intelligence program for the commercial sector. As President and then CEO, I had the opportunity to work with hundreds of organizations – multinationals, NGOs, educational and state/local governments in evolving their Operational Risk Management and Protective Services programs. Continuity of operations was critical.

What research did you do to prepare for this role?

I have always been a multi-disciplinary professional and I am active in many tribes from business continuity to physical and cyber security to risk and insurance to travel risk and executive protection. I have always referred to these as the Protective Services and anchored them on a firm risk management framework. I spend a significant amount of time engaged in and keeping up with the trends and best practices across these disciplines.

What did you do at work yesterday?

Yesterday was fairly representative of the last 8 months. My highest priority was supporting clients with a total of over 4,000 personnel in Ukraine. We have been focusing on developing capabilities and providing resources to maintain operations as the operating environment continues to degrade. Our focus yesterday was on evacuation/relocation plans as well as prioritizing resource shadowing outside of Ukraine. Other activities included the development of a vertically integrated risk management framework from the Board level down to people, facilities, supply and information assets for a Fortune 500 gas & electric company and recording a podcast on need to converge of the protective services disciplines.

What is the biggest risk that you’ve taken?

The biggest and most rewarding risk was taking the leap to start iJET in 1999. Right out the gate we ran into the dot com crash in March 2000 trying to raise money. We were successful in Q3 2000 and launched 24×7 operations on April 1, 2001. The terrorist attack on 9/11 our clients realized the benefit of near real-time intelligence, knowing where their people are and communicating with them. From there, the company took off with the acquisition of Kroll Information Services and then Pinkertons Global Information Service. With over 1,000 clients and millions of personnel on our platform, we helped organizations be proactive in dealing with threats and saving lives.
